St. Agnes
Architect: Werner Düttmann (1965 – 1967)
Conversion: Brandlhuber + Emde, Burlon (2012 – 2015)
St. Agnes is a former Catholic church in Berlin, Kreuzberg. Designed by architect Werner Düttmann as an example of Brutalist architecture, the building was completed in 1967. Regular church services ceased in 2004.
In 2012, gallerist Johann König leased the building for 99 years. The renovation focused on preserving and in some cases restoring the original architecture. Following the renewal of the ceiling and waterproofing of the basement, the nave was converted into an art space. Since May 2015, the church has served as an exhibition hall. The existing daycare centre on the premises remains in operation.
