The Story of the Lion

Created in 1902 by August Gaul for the entrance hall of the palace of the German-Jewish publisher Rudolf Mosse on Voßstraße, Berlin. In 1933 everything changed. The family was forced to flee the Nazis and their property was confiscated.

After the war, the lion was recovered in 1945 from the ruins of a destroyed house and became part of the collection of the Nationalgalerie. Today he welcomes visitors to the James-Simon-Gallery.
